ProPILOT Parking ECU for Nissan Leaf Wins 2018 Nissan Global Supplier Award for Innovation


Clarion Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Atsushi Kawabata, hereinafter "Clarion") has received the "2018 Nissan Global Supplier Award for Innovation" from Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, "Nissan") in recognition of their significant contribution as a supplier.
The Award for Innovation is presented for innovative technological development. This year it went to Clarion's high precision automatic parking Electronic Control Unit (ECU), developed to provide core functionality for the "ProPILOT Parking" automatic parking function in the new "Leaf" (launched October 2017). The new ECU for automatic parking uses image recognition and sonar technology based on the Around View Monitor(*) technology for automatic parking that Clarion and Nissan have been developing together over the years, and combines it with an ECU designed for automatic parking. This combination makes high-precision automatic parking possible. This technology will help drivers who find parking difficult in a variety of everyday scenarios in urban environments, such as parallel parking.
Clarion has previously won the Award for Innovation five times, making this award number six. The 2014 award was presented for the development of lane detection cameras for Active Lane Control. the 2013 award for development of the multifunctional ITS system that uses rear camera image recognition processing for rear blind spot warnings, lane departure warnings and detection of approaching pedestrians and vehicles, the 2012 award for development of the Around View Monitor ECU with the ability to detect moving objects, the 2011 award for development of an on-board telematics communication unit (TCU) for electric cars and a car navigation system that supports telecommunications, and the 2007 award for development of a multifunctional HDD navigation system.
