Cypress, Calif. (January 8, 2013) – Clarion Corporation of America, a market leader and innovator in marine audio electronics today announced introduction of two all-new marine source units with exceptional performance and connectivity. The new flagship marine source units, the CMS5 and CMD9 offer J1939 CAN Bus compatibility, an enhanced user interface, and superior sound quality.
“We are excited to launch these all new, ultra-modern source units designed specifically for the marine market,” stated Allen H. Gharapetian, Vice President of Marketing for Clarion Corporation of America. “Our mobile lifestyle today revolves around connectivity and we think there is no reason to compromise that if we happen to be cruising on the water. While our passion is clearly about audio fidelity and performance, our commitment is to make sure all our products keep you connected to what matters to you on the go.”
The new flagship models were designed to connect seamlessly and take advantage of the on board Multi Functional Displays built into the boats via the J1939 BUS interface. J1939 compatibility allows users to control the new Clarion units from their boat’s command console where the MFDs are located without distraction which ultimately improves operating the boat safety and securely without compromising on the quality and quantity of available infotainment sources and applications.
The all-new CMD9 single DIN marine CD player/receiver features a stainless steel chassis, a silver toned faceplate and an oversized 1.5 DIN IP66 rated panel with blue illuminated knobs. The unit’s industry leading 3-inch optically bonded color LCD display adds to the ergonomics of operating the unit and the cutting edge styling is designed to provide a touch of class to any boat.
The top-end CMS5 digital media black box receiver features a watertight 4.3-inch optically bonded color LCD controller and it complies with the highest standards in water ingress protection with IP67 and IP66 ratings. CMS5 is engineered to offer flexibility for several different marine or power sport applications. Its robust design is extremely versatile, allowing for various mounting locations throughout the boat without the worry of damage from the environment. The CMS5 features composite audio and video inputs and an output, and is 2-zone capable with a dedicated RCA composite camera input.
Both the CMD9 and CMS5 models are designed with Android and iPhone compatibility in mind, with built-in Bluetooth for hands-free calling and stereo audio streaming. Both units are SiriusXM-Ready™ via optional SXV200 SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner Kit (sold separately, SiriusXM subscription required) and capable of receiving SiriusXM’s commercial-free music, premier sports talk and live events, comedy, news, exclusive talk and entertainment, and SiriusXM Latino, the most comprehensive Latin music, sports and talk programming in radio. Other common features between the two models include Pandora internet radio capability via a USB iPhone connection and both units feature dual rear USB 2.1 amp ports for compatibility with and charging of Apple products. Both CMD9 and CMS5 meet or exceed the stringent ASTM B117 (Salt/Fog Exposure) and D4329 (UV Exposure) standards and include durable humi seal coated PCBs. In addition, their optically bonded color LCD displays help block water from getting in.
To provide remote access to the new units, Clarion is also introducing the all-new MW4 wired remote control. MW4 features a highly visible 3-inch optically bonded color LCD display and is backwards compatible with the older MW1 and MW2 remote control units.
These Clarion flagship marine models are expected to be available in time for the 2013 Spring Boating Season.
