Clarion affects society and the environment in a variety of ways through its business activities. In order to reduce the burden we impose on the environment as much as possible, we conduct an assessment of the achievements of our environmental protection activities every year and work on a review of the Mid Term Environmental Plan we set forth in the previous fiscal year. In fiscal 2006, we formulated a new three-year management plan running to 2009. The entire company is committed to achieving the targets set out in the new plan.
We are working on environmental protection activities at four sites including Clarion and its domestic affiliates and subsidiaries. In fiscal 2006 we were not able to meet our annual target for energy-saving activities. This was because of the increase in the number of sites included in the calculation and the increased usage of electricity due to increased production volume as well as increased usage of kerosene air-conditioning. As for the other items, the targets were all achieved. Clarion is determined to further promote environmental protection activities under the new mid term management plan.
