Why does my equaliser not work during some radio broadcasts?

Your radio must be one of a 1996 vintage, a year when "M/S Act" [Speech] was included as an RDS feature. When turned "On" the equalisation and tone settings are neutralised when Voice (RDS) broadcasts are received, like the News and reactivated when the broadcast in question has been completed. The benefit delivered is improved voice clarity but in truth most users prefer to leave this function turned off, hence the demised of this facility on later models. To deactivate "M/S Act" [Speech] push the [ADJ] button for more than two seconds, then navigate through the screen menus using the Alfa Touch Control, select "M/S Speech" and then Off.
